We will have a great choice out of 3 entrees and a great speaker in John Roney, Manager of Sugarloaf State Park.   John Roney was born and raised in Hawaii, John spent most of his youth on the Big Island. After high school, John attended Santa Clara University and graduated with a degree in Economics. He then served four years on active duty as an artillery officer in the US Army stationed in Germany. John then attended the University of California, Irvine, where he received an MBA emphasizing marketing and finance.

Since 2012, he has worked for Sonoma Ecology Center and focused on improving the customer experience and ecological health of Sugarloaf Ridge State Park as park manager.   The Sonoma Ecology Center operates Sugarloaf for the State of California.

His leadership has garnered several accolades, including a California Senate Resolution in 2018 for his efforts in the 2017 fires, the Grassroots Champion Award from the California State Parks Foundation in 2018, and the Sonoma Ecology Center receiving the Park Partner of the Year award from the CALPA in the Sonoma Ecology Center in 2022.
